Touring Exhibitions for Labourers and Students in Ho Chi Minh City

In order to commemorate important holidays in late 2018 and early 2019, the War Remnants Museum practically collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Confederation to organize touring exhibitions of various themes for officers, laborers, and students in Ho Chi Minh City from November 2018 to January 2019.

The Museum’s thematic exhibitions aim to educate officers, laborers, and students in Ho Chi Minh City about President Ho Chi Minh’s spirit and peace aspiration, the consequences of the American aggression in Vietnam, and the Vietnamese’s humanitarianism, spirit of overcoming difficulties, and unyielding will in any circumstances.

Through these touring exhibitions, the ideology and morality about the national pride, and the Vietnamese’s spirit of solidarity and mutual support are successfully transferred to officers, workers, and young generations.

This event was commenced with two themes:

- Theme 1 “Crimes in Phu Quoc Prison” and “Humanitarianism at King Star Co., Ltd. and Vinh Phong Co., Ltd. under Binh Tan District’s Labor Confederation.

- On from January 06-07, 2019: The Museum presented and introduced two themes: “Vietnam’s Marine and Islands: Beauty and Peace” and “Crimes in Phu Quoc Prison”. The exhibition welcomed 1,170 students and nearly 100 teachers from Tây Thạnh High School (Tan Phu District).

A History teacher, Lê Thị Nụ, stated “Bringing the Museum’s exhibitions to schools is a new and meaningful approach for students. The students have a chance to learn more things outside their traditional classroom as well as directly see vivid images and listen to attractive explanations, which helps them get closer to the past, and connect the present and the future.

The two themes “Vietnam’s marine and islands: Beauty and peace” and “Crimes in Phu Quoc Prison” are topical, and contribute to educating the patriotism and pride in the Fatherland’s marine and islands. At the same time, they help enhance the students’ awareness of protecting the marine and island sovereignty.

In the students’ view, besides the knowledge from books, the information from the two exhibitions really helps them understand more about Vietnam’s geography, history, marine and island sovereignty, and the crimes of the American aggression. As a result, they are more aware of the responsibility to join hands and protect the marine and island sovereignty, and the national independence as well.

Nhựt Long, a student in Class 10C1, said “After listening to the introduction of the two exhibitions, I feel that our country, Vietnam, is quite prosperous and beautiful. In order to maintain our rich and beautiful marine and islands, Vietnamese people have struggled and even sacrificed their lives. I feel the Vietnam war was a meaningless war with brutal forms of torture. After seeing the exhibited photos, we must together be fully aware of promoting peace so that no more meaningless wars will ever take place.

- On January 11-15, 2019: The Museum exhibited and introduced two themes “The Ao Dai through fires of war” and “Vietnam’s marine and islands: Beauty and peace” at Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment. The exhibition attracted more than 1,000 students, and nearly 100 officers, employees, and lecturers.

“For officers, laborers and students in universities, the ideological education is extremely important, especially that on the islands and the national traditions. The exhibition at the university, organized by the War Remnants Museum in cooperation with the Trade Union at the faculty and university levels, is really an opportunity for students to have a hands-on visit right at the university. I could feel the students’ enthusiasm and welcome for the Museum’s exhibitions. By the way, I would like to express my great thanks to the directors of the Museum as well as the organizers of the exhibitions. Hopefully, the Museum will have more touring exhibitions with practical and useful themes on education about ideologies and traditions to the Trade Union at the faculty and  university levels in the future,” said Mr. Hồ Ngọc Vinh, Head of the Faculty of Law and Political Theory at Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment.
